What we help with

Men's health, looked at properly

We look at how your heart, hormones and brain are working together, and work alongside your GP, never instead of them.

Energy & hormones

When you don't feel like yourself

Energy, drive and mood depend on hormones, blood sugar, sleep and stress working together.

Low energy & fatigue

Running on empty most days, often with poor sleep and afternoon crashes. Usually several drivers at once.

Common signs

  • Tired on waking
  • Afternoon energy crash
  • Relying on caffeine
  • Poor recovery from exercise

Low testosterone symptoms

Testosterone shapes energy, drive, mood, muscle and body fat. A single number can mislead; we look at the whole hormone system.

Common signs

  • Low drive and libido
  • Losing muscle and strength
  • Low mood or irritability
  • Weight gain around the middle

We don't prescribe testosterone. If treatment may be appropriate, we refer you to your GP or a specialist.

Stress & burnout

Long-term stress pushes cortisol out of rhythm, affecting sleep, blood sugar, testosterone and mood.

Common signs

  • Wired but tired
  • Trouble switching off
  • Short temper
  • Getting ill when you stop

Heart & metabolism

Silent risks, found early

Heart and metabolic problems build quietly for years. Many people who have a heart attack have cholesterol in the normal range.

Cardiovascular risk

We look beyond cholesterol to ApoB, Lp(a), inflammation, homocysteine and clotting, combined into an overall risk index.

Common signs

  • Family history of heart disease
  • Raised blood pressure
  • High cholesterol or triglycerides
  • Smoking, now or in the past

Chest pain or tightness needs urgent medical attention. Call 999.

Insulin resistance & pre-diabetes

Blood sugar control can drift for years before type 2 diabetes is diagnosed. Fasting insulin and HbA1c show it early.

Common signs

  • Weight around the middle
  • Cravings and energy dips
  • Tired after meals
  • Family history of diabetes

Weight around the middle

Belly fat is metabolically active, linked to lower testosterone, insulin resistance and inflammation.

Common signs

  • Waist-to-height ratio over 0.5
  • Weight that won't shift
  • Snoring or poor sleep
  • Low energy

Brain, sleep & mood

The brain side of men's health

Sleep, mood and focus are often the first things to slip, and the last things men talk about.

Poor sleep

Short or broken sleep affects testosterone, blood sugar, weight and mood.

Common signs

  • Waking at night
  • Waking unrefreshed
  • Snoring or pauses in breathing
  • Needing alcohol to wind down

Low mood & anxiety

Low mood in men often shows up as irritability, withdrawal, drinking more or working longer hours.

Common signs

  • Irritability and anger
  • Losing interest
  • Withdrawing from people
  • Drinking more

If you are struggling to cope or having thoughts of harming yourself, call Samaritans free on 116 123, any time, or 999 in an emergency.

Prostate & urinary health

Urinary symptoms are common with age and are usually not cancer, but they should always be checked by your GP.

Common signs

  • Needing to pass urine more often, especially at night
  • Weak flow or straining
  • Feeling you haven't emptied
  • Blood in urine

Urinary changes or blood in your urine should be checked by your GP promptly.
